July, 2026- On June 6, 2004, veterans and world leaders gathered on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings. This moment in World War II marked the beginning of Western Europe’s liberation from Nazi control. Designed by artist ANILORE BANON and fabricated by CONSTRUCTIONS MÉCANIQUES DE NORMANDIE, a shipbuilder, Les Braves (The Brave) was revealed as part of the ceremony that day. Weighing 15 tons and constructed from steel, Les Braves comprises three main sections: the Wings of Hope, which depict five wings or sails symbolizing the spirit that carried the men on June 6, 1944; the Wings of Fraternity; and “Rise, Freedom!”
