Plate distributer buys fiber laser cutting machine

Leeco Steel, the largest supplier of steel plate in North America, announces the purchase of a high-powered 50kW fiber laser cutting system from Cutlite. The new system will be installed at Leeco’s Alvarado, TX facility later this year as part of the company’s ongoing investment in advanced processing capabilities.

The addition of the 50kW Cutlite laser marks a significant step forward in Leeco’s processing initiative, enabling the company to cut steel plate up to five times faster than traditional plasma systems. The machine offers exceptional precision, achieving tolerances as tight as +/- 0.005” on plate parts up to 1-inch thick, and +/- 1/32” or better on thicker materials, up to 4-inches thick. It can also process smaller internal features and holes, as small as a quarter of the material thickness.

"Our customers are increasingly looking for suppliers who can do more than just deliver raw material," said Denton Nordhues, President & CEO of Leeco Steel. "They need a partner who can augment their business with ready-to-fabricate parts. Our investment in the 50kW laser is a direct response to that evolving market demand. By providing greater precision and expanded capabilities, we are simplifying our customers' supply chain and deepening the partnerships that are essential to both of our successes."

In preparation for the machine’s arrival, Leeco is making additional upgrades to its Alvarado facility to ensure seamless integration and efficiency that matches the laser’s cutting speed. These changes will support faster turnaround times and improved quality across a broader range of applications.
