Central control building

April, 2025- Clad in 7,200 stainless steel panels on the exterior—with a central courtyard that features native plantings—the control station and offices of the Kalyan Karapinar solar power plant in Turkey were designed by Bilgin Architectural Design Studio. The firm sought to create a structure that has a dialogue with the earth and the sky, and reflects the technological aspects of renewable energy. The solar field puts out 1,350 megawatts of power. The building itself is energy efficient. Set in the desert, the structure has two layers of facade to prevent high heat exposure to the utility’s employees and equipment. The roof is landscaped, too, reducing cooling costs.
